According to the World Health Organization, sexual health is a state of physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being in relation to sexuality. When people enjoy sexual health, they can build self-esteem, cultivate healthy relationships, and reduce the risks of sexual violence and sexually transmitted infections—ultimately improving overall quality of life and well-being.
Achieving sexual health is not only about the absence of disease or dysfunction; it also requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality, along with the opportunity to have safe and pleasurable experiences.
However, sexuality education has long focused too heavily on risks, diseases, and dangers, while neglecting perspectives of desire and pleasure. Research shows that this imbalance can lead students to adopt an avoidant attitude toward sexuality, leaving them without the knowledge and skills needed to build intimacy and promote holistic well-being.

Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), as advocated by UNESCO, is an approach that equips young people with knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values to respect their own and others’ sexual rights, thereby improving their sexual and reproductive health.

Many studies have shown that integrating perspectives of pleasure into CSE creates a positive, empowering, and more inclusive discourse. This not only helps resist sexual stigma but also enhances young people’s sexual agency, sexual health, and safer sexual experiences.

Sex på kartan is an animated film produced by RFSU and Sveriges Utbildningsradio for use in sex education for 14-year-olds and up. The aim was to make a film with basic information based on young people’s questions, which would be positive and supportive. I will give a brief description of our starting points when we made the film. I will also give some thoughts on how to address masturbation in sexuality education and why it’s important.

This presentation explores how centering sexual pleasure within comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) can become a political practice of resisting sexual stigma. It focuses on how practices of pleasure, care, and solidarity intersect in the lives of marginalized people, generating tensions and challenges that push us to rethink existing boundaries. By engaging with these intersections, the presentation seeks to develop directions and methods for expanding CSE beyond borders.

Disabled people expand our collective understanding of sexuality by challenging narrow definitions of what counts as “sex” and who is seen as desiring and desirable. This presentation explores how “crip” desires disrupt ableist and heteronormative assumptions, inviting more creative, playful, and relational understandings of pleasure. By centering disabled voices, I illustrate how access, interdependence, and bodymind diversity open up radical possibilities for erotic life.
