In early December, TGEEA held an online exchange with youth members from the international NGO Plan International Japan. Centered on the experiences and perspectives of high school and university students, the dialogue explored topics such as gender equality and youth participation.
The exchange began with TGEEA interns—currently high school and university students—sharing the history and current landscape of gender equity education in Taiwan. This was followed by presentations from members of Plan International JP, who introduced projects they have previously worked on. Through questions and responses, both sides engaged in mutual learning and the exchange of experiences.
Throughout the discussion, we reflected on the similarities and differences in promoting gender equality within different social contexts. Despite both groups facing the influence of conservative forces in their respective countries, each continues to work from their own position toward the shared goal of gender equality.
During the Q&A session, Tazaki, a member of Plan International JP, shared their personal journey into social advocacy. They spoke about how feelings of frustration and disappointment after witnessing social inequalities led them to join the organization and transform those emotions into action—engaging in research, social advocacy, and policy recommendations. These efforts have also inspired and attracted more young people to get involved, collectively building momentum for change.
We hope that this exchange marks the beginning of deeper connections and continued collaboration. Looking ahead, we look forward to more opportunities for cross-national and cross-generational dialogue, as we continue to support young people in walking together on the path toward gender equality.
